The story of Calia Italia begins in 1965 in Matera, Basilicata, when master carpenter Liborio Vincenzo Calia decided to devote his talent to the craft of sofa-making. His conviction: a seat must invite rest, conversation and reverie. This philosophy — simple in its statement, demanding in its application — has passed through three generations of the family and still animates the workshops of the house today.

The oldest company in the Basilicata upholstered furniture district, Calia Italia has been recognised as a Historic Brand of National Interest by the Italian authorities. Over 50 new models per year, over 400 colour options in leather and fabric, and an entirely artisan production: every piece bears the signature of a know-how passed from hand to hand.

Artistic director and grandson of the founder, Saverio Calia is the guardian of the house's creative identity.
